Recent news reminds us that some individuals may conspire with outside vendors to steal money from organizations. They do this by submitting fake invoices or overcharging for services that were never actually provided, or were inflated in cost.
To protect your church, senior group, or small business right now:
- Always have at least two trusted individuals review and approve all invoices and payment requests, especially for large amounts.
- Regularly compare vendor invoices against actual services or products received to ensure accuracy and fair pricing.
- Implement clear financial controls and change them periodically to prevent predictable patterns.
