Here’s a helpful warning from Jason at Christ IT Services:
Alert: Don’t Be Fooled – Always Verify Payments to Prevent Fraud
Dear Valued Clients,
Recent news reveals how sophisticated fraudsters can steal millions by creating deceptive schemes that trick organizations into making payments for false purchases. These scams often involve carefully disguised requests for money, diverting funds from their intended purpose and into the scammer’s pockets.
To protect your finances, always double-check any request for payment, especially if it involves wire transfers or electronic deposits. Before sending any money, independently verify the request by calling the company or person using a known phone number – not one provided in an email or invoice you’re questioning. Be extra cautious with unexpected invoices or requests for changes to bank account details for regular payments. For churches and small businesses, consider implementing a "two-person rule" for approving significant payments to add an extra layer of security.
If you are unsure if your system is safe, or if you clicked something you shouldn’t have, give Christ IT a call immediately. We can help.
Stay safe and vigilant,
Jason
