Hello Valued Clients,

This is Jason from Christ IT Services, reaching out with an important warning to help keep our churches, seniors, and small businesses safe online.

Alert: New Fake Invoice Scam Targeting Our Community

A new scam is targeting people in our community with very convincing fake invoices that look like they’re from the City of New Bern. These scam emails use city logos and employee names to trick you into wiring money for services like permits, but they are completely fake.

Here’s What You Need To Do Right Now:

  1. Check the Email Address Carefully: Legitimate emails from the City of New Bern will only come from the domain @newbernnc.gov. If the sender’s email address is anything different, it’s a scam.
  2. Do Not Engage: If you receive an email that doesn’t show @newbernnc.gov as the sender, do not click on any links, do not reply to the email, and delete it immediately.
  3. No Wire Transfers: Remember, the City of New Bern does not accept payments via wire transfer for permits or any other city services. Any request for wire transfer payment is a red flag.
  4. Verify Directly: If you are unsure whether you have an outstanding balance with the City, please call them directly using a phone number you know is correct (from their official website or a trusted directory), not a number provided in a suspicious email.

Your security is our priority. If you are unsure if your system is safe, or if you clicked something you shouldn’t have, give Christ IT a call immediately. We can help.

Stay safe,

Jason
