Aurora Food Bank Receives 40,000 Pounds of Food from LDS Church Donation
Aurora’s regional food bank recently received a significant donation of approximately 40,000 pounds of food from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The delivery, part of a broader nationwide effort, highlights the church’s commitment to supporting communities in need through practical service and resource sharing.
The donation was coordinated as part of a collaboration launched in November 2025, involving local and national Mormon Church officials. This initiative, known as America Gives, is tied to the nation’s semiquincentennial celebration and aims to foster community service through volunteerism. The church’s JustServe platform connects volunteers with local opportunities, enabling the distribution of food and other resources to those facing hardship.
Mark Weslar, food sourcing director for Food Bank of the Rockies, expressed gratitude for the donation, emphasizing its impact on families in the Denver area. “We are deeply grateful to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for this meaningful donation to help provide nutritious food to our neighbors facing hunger,” he said. The partnership between the church and the food bank has spanned over a decade, with the church contributing enough food to support more than 294,000 meals in Colorado communities.
The nationwide effort includes 250 food deliveries planned across all 50 states. Each shipment is intended to provide millions of meals to families in need, reflecting a coordinated response to hunger and food insecurity. The church is utilizing its volunteer network, humanitarian resources, and distribution infrastructure to support this initiative, demonstrating a commitment to practical neighbor-love and community care.
The America Gives campaign encourages public participation through the JustServe platform, inviting individuals to engage in volunteer service opportunities. This approach aligns with the biblical call to care for the hungry and marginalized, as seen in Matthew 25:35, which reminds believers to serve those in need as they would serve Christ himself.
Through such partnerships, churches and ministries continue to play a vital role in addressing local challenges with compassion and action. The collaboration between the LDS Church and the Aurora food bank exemplifies how faith communities can mobilize resources and volunteers to meet pressing needs in their neighborhoods.
