Church of Jesus Christ Completes Food Deliveries to All 50 U.S. States for America250
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has completed its goal of delivering food to all 50 U.S. states as part of its America250 initiative. This effort, which celebrates the nation’s 250th anniversary, reached its milestone with a food delivery to Hilo, Hawaii, on June 13, 2026. The event was highlighted in Hawaii and Boston, with volunteer efforts also taking place in Alaska. This milestone reflects a nationwide commitment to serving communities through practical acts of mercy and neighbor-love.
In Boston, a semitruck carrying over 37,000 pounds of food was delivered to the Catholic Charities Boston Yawkey Center on June 17. The food will be distributed on June 20 in honor of Juneteenth. This effort is part of the America250 “America Gives” initiative, supported by JustServe. The donation was announced at an event that brought together local leaders, volunteers, and faith organizations to assist families in need.
“This remarkable milestone for America Gives reminds us that service connects us across geography, backgrounds, and beliefs,” said Rosie Rios, Chair of America250 and former U.S. Treasurer. “From Alaska and Hawaii to Boston and beyond, Americans are showing that one of the best ways to celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday is by serving our neighbors and strengthening our communities.”
By the end of the year, 250 truckloads of food will have been distributed nationwide, representing millions of meals. Half of these deliveries have already been completed. The initiative underscores the importance of addressing food insecurity, which affects people regardless of faith, race, or socioeconomic status.
Cristiano Barbosa, an Auxiliary Bishop with the Archdiocese of Boston, praised the donation, stating, “This wonderful donation from our friends of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints demonstrates that food insecurity knows no boundaries of faith, race, or socioeconomic level.” He emphasized the need to eliminate food insecurity in the United States, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to grow up healthy and every family has enough food to eat.
Elder Allen D. Haynie, President of the Church’s United States Northeast Area, highlighted the importance of recognizing hunger in one’s own community. He expressed gratitude to collaborators, including the Catholic Church and the Church of God in Christ, for their contributions to the project. “May we continue to serve together in the months and years ahead, and in doing so, may we help make this country better and kinder,” Elder Haynie said.
Sister Tracy Y. Browning, who leads the Church’s global organization for children, emphasized the critical role of these food deliveries in supporting vulnerable families. The initiative aligns with the biblical principle of caring for the hungry and the marginalized, as seen in Matthew 25:35, where Jesus says, “I was hungry and you gave me food.” This spirit of service reflects the Church’s ongoing commitment to practical mercy and community outreach.
