Is Your Church Teaching You to Save the World, or Just Survive It?

I have a simple measuring stick for distinguishing a good church from a bad one.

If your pastor preaches sermons designed to help you get along better in this world—to be comfortable, to excel, to rationalize your wealth—then your leadership has missed the mark. Any fruit you produce is bitter.

But if your church is helping you improve your relationship with God by pushing you to serve your community, correct oppression, and suffer for the faith, then y’all are on to something.

We spend too much time getting “pep talks” for our worldly lives and not enough time conspiring to save the world. It is time to stop hiding in our churches with police officers at the door to keep the “poors” away.

You signed a verbal contract when you threw your hands up for Jesus. And the Big Man is going to hold you to it.
