Dear Valued Clients,
We want to make you aware of a new online danger that could affect churches, seniors, and small businesses alike.
Alert: Verify Phone Numbers Before You Dial!
The Threat:
When you search on Google for a phone number for a company you trust, a new feature called ‘AI Overviews’ might show you a fake customer service number. If you call this fake number, you’ll be connected to a scammer who will try to trick you into giving them money or personal information.
The Fix:
To protect yourself, always get contact information directly from the official website of the company you’re trying to reach. Type their website address into your browser yourself, and then find their ‘Contact Us’ page there. Never trust a phone number displayed at the very top of a general Google search result, especially if it doesn’t clearly link to the official company site. Remember, legitimate companies rarely ask for sensitive details like your full Social Security number, passwords, or payment via gift cards over the phone unless you initiated the call for a specific transaction.
Need Help?
If you are unsure if your system is safe, or if you clicked something you shouldn’t have, give Christ IT a call immediately. We can help.
Sincerely,
Jason
