Here’s a helpful warning from Jason at Christ IT Services:
Heads Up: Cybercrime Is Real – Protect Your Digital Life
Recent news of an arrest for serious online crimes like breaking into computer systems and tricking people into sending money (known as wire fraud) is a stark reminder. These types of digital dangers are very real and actively target individuals, churches, seniors, and small businesses every day.
Here’s what you can do right now to protect yourself:
- Be Skeptical: Always question unexpected emails, texts, or calls asking for personal information, passwords, or money. Never feel pressured to act immediately.
- Verify Everything: Before sending any money or sensitive information, especially in response to an email, always verify the request by calling the sender using a known phone number (not one provided in the suspicious message).
- Update and Protect: Ensure your computers and mobile devices have the latest security updates installed. Use strong, unique passwords for all your online accounts.
- Think Before You Click: Be extremely cautious about clicking links or opening attachments from unknown or suspicious senders. When in doubt, delete it.
If you are unsure if your system is safe, or if you clicked something you shouldn’t have, give Christ IT a call immediately. We can help.
