Centralia Church Minister Arrested on Child Pornography Charges

A 39-year-old minister from Centralia has been accused of possessing child pornography, facing four charges in Marion County Court. The allegations emerged from an investigation led by Jefferson County Sheriff’s Detective Bobby Wallace, who works with the Internet Crimes Against Children’s Task Force.

Maphet, the Worship Minister at Calumet Street Christian Church, was arrested at the church on Wednesday by Centralia Police. The investigation revealed child pornography activity in the Centralia area, prompting the issuance of a search warrant for his electronic devices.

Two of the charges are classified as Class X felonies, the most severe, while the remaining two are Class 2 felonies. Detective Wallace noted that the forensic evaluation of the evidence is ongoing, and further charges may be added as the investigation progresses.

Following the evidence presented by Illinois State Police, the church terminated Maphet’s position. In a Facebook post, the church expressed a commitment to unity and prayer during this challenging time, seeking divine guidance for all involved.

The church is organizing a prayer session on Thursday night to support its members and those affected by the situation. The post emphasized the importance of community and spiritual resilience amid the circumstances.
