SDA Evangelist Arrested for Alleged Cyberbullying of Church Members

A Seventh-day Adventist Church evangelist, Simbarashe Marufu, was arrested on Monday on allegations of cyberbullying after he posted a video of three female church members on social media (Proverbs 31:8-9).

The three women filed complaints claiming Marufu had misused their video and images to gain online attention, which he later shared with a mocking caption that drew negative comments (Micah 6:8).

The caption included remarks that were perceived as an attack on the women’s characters, prompting one of them to urge other church members to take action against what she believed was a violation of their dignity.

The women then filed a police report at Marlborough Police Station, initiating an investigation into the alleged cyberbullying case involving a local church leader and his fellow churchmates.

Marufu is believed to have consulted his lawyer after learning about the report, who advised him to issue an apology on the same social media platform where the incident occurred.

ZRP spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case, stating that Marufu’s cellphone, used in the incident, is now in police custody as investigations continue.

One of the victims claimed this was not the first time Marufu had used his social media platforms to attack fellow church members, and the three women intend to take legal action against both Marufu and those who used the posts to insult their characters.
