The Great Schism Begins ποΈ
Hey everyone! Did you know that on July 16, 1054, something huge happened in the history of Christianity? It’s called the Great Schism. On this day, a representative of Pope Leo IX named Cardinal Humbert put a decree of excommunication on the altar of the Hagia Sophia in Constantinople. This act declared that the Patriarch of Constantinople, Michael Cerularius, was excommunicated. This event marked the split between the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Churches.

First Catholic Mission in California βͺ
On another note, on July 16, 1769, Father JunΓpero Serra founded the Mission San Diego de AlcalΓ‘, which was the first Catholic mission in California. This was the start of 21 missions aimed at sharing Christianity with the Native American population.
