Canadian Megachurch Receives New Allegations Against Former Pastor Bruxy Cavey

Following the initial investigation that led to the resignation of Bruxy Cavey as pastor of The Meeting House, Canada’s largest megachurch, two additional individuals have contacted the church with allegations of sexual misconduct against him. The Meeting House confirmed receipt of these new claims through a statement obtained by The Roys Report.
The church, in its earlier investigation, found that Cavey had engaged in a “sexual relationship” that constituted “sexual harassment,” abusing his position of authority. An alleged victim previously described this misconduct as a “devastating twisting of pastoral care into sexual abuse.” This latest development adds to the concerns raised about the former leader.
Danielle Strickland, a former pastor at The Meeting House, has publicly stated her support for the investigation and the subsequent response. Strickland resigned shortly after Cavey’s departure, expressing solidarity with the victim. Her departure underscores the gravity with which the church leadership initially viewed the situation.
Maggie John, chair of The Meeting House’s overseers board, emphasized the church’s commitment to addressing any concerns of sexual misconduct. The board has engaged Melodie Bissell, a victim advocate, to receive and process any future allegations, whether they pertain to current or past pastors, staff, or lay leaders. John stated that Bissell has now received “new allegations of sexual misconduct against Bruxy, unrelated to the previous investigation.”
While the church has obtained permission from the individuals who came forward to inform its community and leadership about the new allegations, they have not yet been formally investigated. John assured the community that the board “take[s] these initial allegations very seriously” and will respond appropriately as more information becomes available.
Katie Double, a spokeswoman for The Meeting House, confirmed that retaining Bissell represents the board’s first concrete step in fulfilling its commitment to “being as honest and transparent as possible as we foster a safe and caring church community.” A town hall meeting is scheduled for the upcoming weeks to provide updates on these developments and the church’s ongoing efforts.
