A former pastor from Mooresville, Luis Alberto Sosa, has been charged with multiple felony offenses, including human trafficking and sexual abuse, involving two teenage victims. The charges stem from an investigation by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, which began after detectives received information about sex offenses involving minors that occurred between 2002 and 2008. The victims, both Argentinian nationals, were reportedly part of a religious ministry led by Sosa, who was serving as a missionary pastor at the time.
Sosa allegedly brought the victims to the United States under false pretenses, claiming it was a ministry opportunity. He was granted temporary guardianship over the children during their stay. The investigation revealed that Sosa committed several sexual offenses against the minors while they were in his care at various locations in the Mooresville area.
The case was initially reported to Argentinian authorities by the victims and was later forwarded to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office through the Argentinian Consulate. This led to a joint investigation between the two countries. As the investigation unfolded, it was discovered that Sosa had fled North Carolina and traveled to Florida. Detectives obtained arrest warrants and a nationwide extradition order for Sosa.
On October 8, in collaboration with the Flagler County, Florida, Sheriff’s Office, detectives located and arrested Sosa without incident. He is currently being held without bond in Florida, pending extradition on charges that include two counts of Felony Human Trafficking, five counts of Felony Statutory Sexual Offense, seven counts of Felony Sexual Activity by a Custodian, and two counts of Felony Indecent Liberties with a Child.
Sheriff Darren Campbell emphasized the importance of collaboration between agencies in bringing fugitives to justice, expressing gratitude to both the Argentinian authorities and the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance. This case underscores the need for accountability and justice, reflecting the biblical call for truth and care for victims, as highlighted in Micah 6:8.
