South Texas Pastor Arrested for Multiple Counts of Indecency with a Child
Jorge Gonzalez Martinez, 49, a pastor in Edinburg, Texas, was arrested on Monday and charged with multiple counts of indecency with a child. The alleged incidents are said to have occurred between March and April 2025. Martinez was arrested at Iglesia Internacional Poder y Gloria, where he served as a pastor.
The investigation into Martinez began after a girl came forward with allegations, prompting police to file an initial report earlier this month. Edinburg Police Chief Jaime Ayala emphasized the importance of identifying any additional victims, stating that the police department hopes any remaining victims will feel encouraged to come forward.
Martinez was charged with one count of indecency with a child involving exposure and three counts of indecency with a child sexual contact. A judge set his bail at $300,000. The investigation remains ongoing, with Ayala describing the case as one that “hits you in the gut.”
Ayala highlighted the distressing nature of the case, noting that a pastor is not typically someone suspected of harming children. “No child should go through what this child went through,” he said in a video posted by CBS 4 News.
The case underscores the need for accountability and the protection of the vulnerable. Proverbs 31:8-9 calls for defending the rights of the poor and needy, a principle that resonates with the pursuit of justice in such matters.
