The First Baptist Church Clothes Closet in Milford has expanded its service offerings by adding a second day each month for accepting clothing donations. This initiative is designed to better serve the needs of the community, particularly those who are in need of clothing and children’s books. The Clothes Closet, located at 28 North St., will now be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first and second Saturdays of each month, in addition to its regular hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays.
Since its opening in May 2002, the Clothes Closet has been a vital resource for the community, providing free clothing and gently used children’s books. In just the past few months, more than 1,000 individuals have benefited from this service, highlighting the ongoing need and impact of the church’s outreach efforts.
The decision to extend service hours was encouraged by the pastor-elect, the Rev. Horace A. Hough, who emphasized the importance of providing additional opportunities for those in need. “Simply opening our Clothes Closet doors one more day a week may provide an extra window of opportunity for someone to have the means to clothe themselves, their family, and their children,” he noted. This initiative reflects the church’s commitment to serving its community, a mission that aligns with the biblical call to love and serve one’s neighbor, as seen in Matthew 25:35.
