New Documentation Reveals Alleged Child Sexual Abuse in Bay Area Religious Sect Under FBI Investigation
A religious group known as the “Two by Twos,” or the “Church With No Name,” is at the center of an FBI investigation into alleged child sexual abuse. The group, which operates in the Bay Area, has been described by former members as a nondenominational sect with a long history dating back to the late 1800s. Recent revelations have raised concerns about the organization’s practices and its response to allegations of abuse.
Former members have described the group as using fear and manipulation to maintain control. LaNette Burrage Flanigan, a former member, called the organization “disturbing,” noting that it promotes the idea that it is the only true path. Cynthia Liles, a private investigator working with the FBI, emphasized that the abuse appears to be systemic and intergenerational, with many former members reluctant to confront the issue.
Several former members have come forward with accounts of alleged sexual abuse by ministers or other members during their childhood. Lauralee Brown, one such individual, described instances of abuse occurring “about two times a week, or more,” during gatherings known as “Truth meetings.” Brown expressed deep emotional distress, stating that the experiences have left her “broken” and “sick.”
The group’s leadership has been accused of living in the homes of followers, which has allegedly provided easy access to young children. This practice has raised concerns about the safety of minors within the organization. Despite these claims, some current leaders have denied awareness of the allegations. Gary Paul, a minister based in Washington state, stated that he had not seen any evidence of abuse and found it difficult to believe the accounts.
The FBI’s investigation has prompted renewed scrutiny of the group’s operations and leadership. Former members and investigators have called for accountability, emphasizing the need for transparency and justice. The case highlights ongoing challenges in addressing abuse within religious institutions and the importance of protecting vulnerable individuals.
