Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints partners with America250 to deliver food to local food banks
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently partnered with America250 and JustServe to deliver a 250 Truckload of food to local food banks. The initiative, part of America250’s nationwide “America Gives” campaign, aims to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence by fostering unity through service. The 18-wheeler carried approximately 40,000 pounds of food supplies, including canned vegetables, beans, pasta, and household items, intended to assist families in need.
Hope Ministries Inc. received a significant portion of the food, which was described as a “tremendous blessing.” Barbara Goode, the HOPE Program Director, noted that the donation allows the ministry to prepare food for families arriving at their apartments. Pastor Cynthia Jackson of Transformed through Hope Ministries also praised the generosity, stating that the items help stretch food budgets for those struggling to make ends meet.
The food was largely produced by Church operations or funded through member donations. It arrived at Tracy Interfaith Ministries food bank, where it will provide thousands of meals to residents of South San Joaquin County. Stephen Parsons, the Founding Director of St Paul’s United Methodist Church Food Pantry, expressed gratitude for the donation, highlighting its impact on meeting food supply needs in the community.
Eight smaller food banks from Manteca, Ripon, and Tracy shared the Church’s food donations with Tracy Interfaith Ministries. The initiative reflects a shared commitment to service, generosity, and unity, as emphasized by LDS Church leader Gerrit Gong. The effort underscores the importance of coming together to support those in need and express gratitude for the freedoms that allow diverse faiths to flourish.
The food truckload included a variety of non-perishable items such as cake mixes, hot cocoa, and dish soap, alongside staples like pasta and flour. These donations are part of a larger effort to distribute 250 truckloads of food across all 50 states, with each truck carrying around 40,000 pounds of supplies. The total estimated aid amounts to 10 million pounds, demonstrating the scale of the Church’s contribution to food insecurity.
This service effort aligns with the biblical call to care for the vulnerable and to act with justice, mercy, and humility. Micah 6:8 reminds us that God desires people to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with Him. The Church’s actions reflect this spirit, offering tangible support to those in need while fostering a sense of community and shared purpose.
