Overcoming Believers Church Continues Community Service After Fire Damage

Just one day after a fire severely damaged their cafe, the men and women of Overcoming Believers Church in Knoxville, Tenn., were out serving their community by distributing groceries and holding a Bible study.

The church holds a Bible study from noon to 1 p.m. every Tuesday, followed by a food giveaway from 1 to 2. Public Relations Director Deborah Spencer emphasized that service is one of the four pillars of their church, alongside Word, Worship, and Souls. She noted that service brings joy and is integral to their mission of bringing souls into the Kingdom of God. “If we have to have church in this parking lot, that’s what we’re going to do,” she said.

The majority of the damage was in the Kingdom Cafe and the Rainforest, where children’s church and classes are held. There was some smoke and water damage in the sanctuary, but it could have been much worse, according to Spencer. She expressed hope that things will be back to normal soon.

Spencer mentioned that the church hasn’t received any definitive answers about the cause of the fire, but they expect to find out in the next few days as the investigation continues. Despite the setback, the church remains committed to its community outreach, embodying the spirit of neighbor-love as seen in Matthew 25:35, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat.”
