Chicago Pastor Charged with Alleged Sexual Abuse of Twin Girls During Tutoring Sessions

A pastor in Chicago, Jeffery Parks, 51, was arrested on charges of allegedly sexually abusing twin girls he had tutored at home. The arrest, announced by police on Sunday, followed a bond hearing the clergyman attended on Friday. Parks, who serves at Good Shepherd Church, is accused of inappropriately touching the girls on multiple occasions since 2017. The allegations came to light after the girls informed their mother about the incidents, which were discussed during a conversation on inappropriate touching.

Law enforcement charged Parks with one felony count of aggravated criminal abuse and one of predatory criminal assault, both involving victims under the age of 13. He is currently being held on a bond of $100,000. According to police spokesman Michael Carroll, the victims reported that beginning in 2017, Parks would inappropriately place his hands on them during tutoring sessions.

This incident is part of a broader pattern of sexual abuse scandals involving religious leaders in Chicago and across the United States. Recent reports highlight that nearly 400 Catholic clergy members have faced accusations of sexual misconduct in Illinois. Similarly, over the past two decades, more than 380 Southern Baptist leaders and volunteers have been accused of sexual misconduct, as reported by The Houston Chronicle and The San Antonio Express-News.
