In a significant legal development, a former Catholic priest, Theodore Edward Gabrielli, 62, is set to face trial on multiple counts of child molestation. A San Luis Obispo County Superior Court judge has ruled that there is sufficient evidence to proceed with the case. Gabrielli was arrested in June 2025 in Los Osos, following an investigation initiated by the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation began after receiving a report of child abuse that allegedly occurred over three decades ago, involving four minors who were under the age of 14 at the time.
The alleged abuse, which reportedly took place between 1991 and 2010, spanned six counties in California, including San Luis Obispo. According to the District Attorney’s Office, the abuse occurred when the children’s family, residing in Mexico, befriended Gabrielli and permitted him to take the boys on trips to California. These trips included visits to his parents’ home in Los Osos, where the alleged assaults took place.
Following a four-day preliminary hearing, Gabrielli was held to answer on 24 felony counts. His arraignment is scheduled for July 14. The District Attorney’s Office is also considering additional charges, based on evidence presented during the preliminary hearing. Since his arrest, Gabrielli has been held in the San Luis Obispo County Jail without bail.
