Former Boys School in Niagara to Become Home for Faith-Based Charities Amidst Allegations of Abuse

The former Robert Land Academy in Wellandport, which closed last June due to declining enrollment and financial challenges, is set to become a hub for faith-based charities known as Worldview Campus. The property, now owned by Cántaro Institute, will serve as a headquarters for the institute and provide a space for other ecumenical organizations. This transformation aims to create a “safe, peaceful environment” for the community.

Cántaro Institute, established in 2020 by Rev. Steven Martins, plans to use the site to foster community engagement and support local initiatives. The property, spanning nearly 70 hectares, will feature the Paideia Study Center, which includes a library, classrooms, and lecture halls dedicated to theological education. Additionally, the campus will house publishing facilities and a media studio.

The former academy, which faced numerous lawsuits alleging abuse, is now being repurposed to focus on community service and support. Rose City Kids, a Welland-based ministry, will also utilize the site for its outdoor programs, benefiting over 700 children and youths.

Rev. Martins emphasized the vision of creating a multi-charity site that serves the community’s needs, reflecting the biblical principle of neighbor-love and justice. As Proverbs 11:1 reminds us, “A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is his delight.” This initiative seeks to embody these values by fostering a supportive and nurturing environment.
