A former Jacksonville youth pastor, Joshua Trent, has been arrested on charges of sexual battery, stemming from allegations of grooming a minor over several years. Trent, 42, was apprehended on April 12 at a local restaurant, and is currently being held without bond on two counts of felony sexual battery.
The investigation, initiated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office on January 20, 2026, followed a tip received by First Coast Crime Stoppers. The allegations suggest that Trent engaged in inappropriate behavior with a female victim from 2016 to 2022, beginning when she was a minor. Detectives identified and interviewed the victim after she came forward, corroborating the claims of abuse.
Trent, who previously served as a youth pastor at a local church where the victim and her family were members, allegedly used his position to establish a close relationship with the victim. Additionally, he was employed as a vice president at a church software company on Normandy Boulevard, where the alleged abuse also took place, including at Trent’s home.
The investigation revealed that Trent’s termination from the software company in November 2021 was linked to a separate investigation involving a computer’s IP address. It was noted that Trent and the victim were often seen alone together, raising concerns.
