In the first half of 2026, the UK experienced a significant rise in antisemitic incidents, with a 21 percent increase compared to the previous year. This surge has been linked to the ongoing US-Israel conflict with Iran. The Community Security Trust (CST), a Jewish charity, reported 1,926 anti-Jewish hate incidents, including assaults, arson, and notably, the stabbing of two Jewish men in Golders Green, a London suburb with a substantial Jewish population. This incident notably led to a spike in antisemitic attacks and abuse.
The CST highlighted that this period saw the second-highest number of incidents ever reported for the first half of a year. In the aftermath of the Golders Green stabbing, there were 71 antisemitic incidents in just three days, with 16 directly referencing the attack. Some of these incidents included celebrations of the violence and the spread of antisemitic conspiracy theories.
A group linked to Tehran, the Islamic Movement of Companions of the Right, also known as Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamia (HAYI), claimed responsibility for seven attacks. In one notable incident, four ambulances belonging to Hatzola, a Jewish charity, were set on fire in London’s Golders Green area in March. In response, the UK government sanctioned HAYI, affirming its commitment to protecting the Jewish community.
The UK government also accused members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) Qods Force of orchestrating antisemitic attacks through HAYI. Home Office minister Angela Eagle stated that the UK had identified threats and intimidation activities linked to the IRGC on UK soil.
The rise in antisemitic incidents in the UK has been ongoing since the Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which led to Israel’s conflict with Palestinian militants in Gaza. In response to the latest figures, policing minister Sarah Jones described the situation as “appalling” and emphasized the need to eradicate such hatred from society. The UK government has committed to investing a record £250 million to enhance policing in Jewish neighborhoods, underscoring the importance of community safety and justice. This situation calls to mind the biblical principle of seeking peace and justice, as reflected in Micah 6:8, which emphasizes doing justice, loving kindness, and walking humbly with God.
