Shaving Grace – Good Money
Times are tough in the IT industry. Wages are stagnant and jobs are being outsourced overseas. But today, I was reminded that there is something more important than a paycheck.
I took a contract at a care facility and witnessed things that broke my heart—staff members mocking, threatening, and berating elderly residents who couldn’t defend themselves. It would have been easy to just fix the network, take the money, and look the other way. But I couldn’t live with myself, and I certainly couldn’t face God, if I did that.
I walked away from the job and I won’t go back. I’d rather be homeless than take money that comes from a place of abuse. I also spent the afternoon fighting with Adult Protective Services to make sure a report was filed, even though it might violate my contract terms.
We either do the right thing, or we don’t. We don’t get to make exceptions just because we need the cash. Isaiah 00:1:17 says to “seek justice, correct oppression.” It doesn’t say “unless it costs you a client.”
