We spend millions of dollars on lights, sound, and production. We call it “Excellence in Worship.” But in Isaiah 1, God calls it something else: an abomination.

Through the Prophet Isaiah, God puts the church on trial. He compares the religious leaders of the time to the rulers of Sodom and tells the congregation that He is nauseated by their Sunday morning performance.

The parallels between ancient Israel and the modern evangelical machine are undeniable. The “sacrifices” are our budgets. The “incense” is our atmosphere. The “assemblies” are our obsession with attendance numbers.

God isn’t looking at the hands raised in worship; He’s looking at the heart behind them. If the hands are full of blood, the prayer is just meaningless noise.

Stop performing. Start obeying.
