Religious Charity Parts Ways with Huw Edwards Following Indecent Image Charges

A religious charity has confirmed that Huw Edwards is no longer its vice president following charges related to making indecent images of children. Edwards, a Welsh broadcaster, was arrested in November last year and charged the following month with offenses allegedly committed between December 2020 and April 2022. The National Churches Trust, which supports church buildings with maintenance and repairs and is patronized by King Charles, expressed being “shocked and saddened” by the charges. Edwards had served as an unpaid, voluntary vice president since 2013.

At Westminster Magistrates’ Court, Edwards pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the charges relate to images shared on a WhatsApp chat. Edwards, aged 62 and residing in Southwark, London, was arrested on November 8, 2023, and subsequently charged on June 26, following authorization from the Crown Prosecution Service.
