The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints delivers 100th food truck to Dallas pantry
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has continued its efforts to support food banks across the United States, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to community service. In May 2026, the Church delivered its 100th truckload of food to Joe’s Pantry in Dallas, Texas, as part of a broader initiative to donate 250 truckloads of food in honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary. This delivery included 40,000 pounds of food, such as canned fruits and vegetables, pasta, flour, beans, peanut butter, and dried milk, most of which were produced by the Church and funded by member donations.
The food will help provide nearly 34,000 meals to residents of the Dallas area, according to a news release from ChurchofJesusChrist.org. In addition to supporting Joe’s Pantry, the donation will also assist a new Soldiers’ Angels food pantry for veterans and military families. Catholic Charities Dallas facilitated the donation to both locations, emphasizing the importance of food as a universal resource that can help anyone in need.
David Woodyard, president and CEO of Catholic Charities Dallas, highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating that the food pantry is “where the rubber meets the road.” He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve those in need, noting that food is a basic necessity that can make a tangible difference in people’s lives. Kelly Noonan, chief development officer of Catholic Charities Dallas, described the collaboration with the Church as “an incredible opportunity for two groups to come together for common good,” focusing on serving the less fortunate and the most vulnerable populations.
America250 Commissioner Cathy Gillespie, who was present for the donation in Dallas, praised the Church’s contributions, calling them “a source of hope, sustenance, and what people need.” The initiative, which began in November 2025, has already seen donations in multiple states, with the Church committed to delivering food to food banks in all 50 states. The effort reflects a dedication to practical neighbor-love and mercy work, aligning with the biblical call to care for the hungry and the poor, as seen in Matthew 25:35.
The Church’s donations have included food from its Bishops’ Central Storehouse in Salt Lake City, with initial deliveries to food banks in Oregon, Arkansas, Texas, Missouri, and Michigan. As of May 2026, multiple donations have been made across several states, demonstrating a nationwide commitment to addressing food insecurity. The initiative underscores the importance of community partnerships and the shared responsibility to support those in need, reflecting the spirit of Galatians 6:10, which encourages believers to do good to all people, especially those in the household of faith.
Through these efforts, the Church continues to embody the principle of serving others with compassion and generosity, offering tangible support to those facing hunger and hardship. The initiative serves as a reminder of the power of collective action and the importance of providing practical assistance to those in need, in line with the call to love one’s neighbor as oneself.
