Salvation Army of Northeast Florida sets Oct. 15 deadline for holiday aid registration
The Salvation Army of Northeast Florida has established October 15 as the final date for families to register for holiday assistance through its Thanksgiving meal and Angel Tree gift programs. These initiatives aim to provide essential support during the holiday season, offering food and Christmas gifts to those in need within the local community.
The Thanksgiving meal program, known as Can-U-Care, and the Angel Tree gift distribution are designed to assist households facing financial hardship. The Salvation Army has been serving the Jacksonville community since 1891, continuing its mission of providing aid and support through various charitable programs.
To qualify for assistance, applicants must submit several documents verifying their financial situation and residency. These include the first page of a 2025 tax return, proof of income such as pay stubs or benefit award letters, and proof of residence through a lease, utility bill, or official mail. Additional requirements include a current photo ID, Social Security cards for verification, and birth certificates or passports for all family members included in the application.
The registration process is managed by the organization’s social services team, led by Director of Social Services Minerva Torres Collazo and Volunteer Recruiter Sheila Wright. These individuals oversee the collection and verification of applicant information to ensure the programs serve those most in need.
Beyond seasonal assistance, The Salvation Army of Northeast Florida operates year-round programs addressing emergency disaster response, domestic violence, and substance abuse. These initiatives reflect the organization’s broader commitment to community welfare and support for vulnerable populations.
The Salvation Army’s efforts align with a biblical call to care for the poor and vulnerable, as seen in Micah 6:8, which emphasizes doing justice, loving kindness, and walking humbly with God. The organization’s work embodies these principles through its charitable activities and community engagement.
