Halton police have charged a Catholic priest with sexual assault following an investigation in Oakville, prompting immediate action from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Hamilton.
The investigation began in February after an allegation surfaced regarding the sexual assault of a woman while she was volunteering at a church in Oakville. Detectives confirmed the charge against Rev. Ranjan D’Sa, a 53-year-old priest who has served at St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church since 2016.
D’Sa was released on an undertaking with an appearance at a Milton courthouse scheduled for a future date. The Diocese of Hamilton stated they were informed of the allegation following the police report and immediately removed the priest from his parish duties.
The Diocese emphasized that D’Sa is prohibited from all priestly ministry pending the investigation’s outcome. Investigators are concerned there may be additional victims and have released a photo of the accused to aid in identifying potential witnesses.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit at 905-825-4777 ext. 8970 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers. (Proverbs 31:8-9)
Police have also provided contact details for the public to report tips, emphasizing the importance of protecting vulnerable individuals. (Ephesians 5:11)
