Emma Nita Kruger, who passed away on March 15, 2023, at the age of 90, was a devoted member of Talent Friends Church in Talent, Oregon. Her life was marked by service, faith, and a deep commitment to her family and community. A memorial service was planned for March 31 at Talent Friends Church, where she had been an active participant for many years.

Born on October 10, 1932, in Weed, California, Emma was the sixth and youngest child of Frank Bortolazzo and Rosa Silvestri. She spent her childhood on a ranch in Grenada and later attended school in Yreka, where she became the first in her family to earn a high school diploma. Emma married Frank Ellis Roy in 1951, and together they built a life in Talent, Oregon. After Frank’s death in 1963, Emma continued to care for their daughter, LaVern, while also maintaining a strong spiritual life.

In 1968, Emma married Owen Ellsworth “Ike” Kruger at Talent Friends Church, a decision that reflected her growing involvement in the Quaker community. She remained an active member, serving as a Sunday school teacher and known for her warmth, laughter, and strong singing. Her dedication to the church was recognized with the award of Chief Praise & Glory Giver.

Emma’s life was filled with activities that brought her joy and connected her with others. She enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, camping, and annual trips to the Oregon Fire Chiefs Association conference with Ike. She also maintained a weekly Bible study group with friends, often meeting for lunch at McDonald’s. Her commitment to physical and mental well-being included regular workouts and card games, which she believed helped keep her mind sharp.

Throughout her life, Emma remained a source of encouragement and kindness. She was known for her love of animals, teaching her small dogs to knock on the door and wipe their feet. Her legacy of care and compassion extended to her family and friends, who remembered her for her vibrant spirit and unwavering faith.

Emma is survived by her five grandchildren and is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sisters, and her two husbands. Her life exemplifies the Quaker values of peace, simplicity, and integrity, as seen in Micah 6:8, which calls for doing justice, loving mercy, and walking humbly with God. Her memory continues to inspire those who knew her.
