Robert Morris Released on Probation After 6 Months in Jail for Child Sex Abuse

Robert Morris, a former spiritual adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump, was released from an Oklahoma jail in early 2026 after serving six months for sexually abusing a 12-year-old. The conviction stemmed from a plea deal with the Oklahoma attorney general’s office and the survivor of his abuse, Cindy Clemishire.

Morris received a 10-year sentence in 2025 for five counts of lewd or indecent acts with a child, but only six months of that was served in jail. The remainder of his sentence will be served on probation, and he will remain registered as a sex offender for life.

The abuse occurred between the ages of 12 and 14, as detailed in Morris’ indictment. He was a founder of Gateway Church in Texas and served on an evangelical advisory board for Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.

While the White House clarified that Morris was not Trump’s spiritual adviser, the details of his departure from the campaign remain unclear. Clemishire, the survivor, expressed her dissatisfaction with the plea deal but acknowledged it was an alternative to a lengthy trial.

Clemishire’s lawyer stated that she will continue to pursue justice through the civil justice system. The public often confuses the terms “jail” and “prison,” but Morris served his time in a county jail, a short-term facility for suspects awaiting trial or conviction.

Morris will serve his probation at a Texas home estimated to be worth between $1.2 million and $1.5 million. His release from Osage County Jail was confirmed on March 31, 2026, just after midnight.
