One notable example involves a course at the University of California, Berkeley, where students were allegedly offered extra credit for attending a university-sponsored event titled “Thinking from Palestine: Dispossession, Liberation, and Return.” In response to inquiries, UC Berkeley’s Assistant Vice Chancellor Dan Mogulof stated that the university had “no record of students being offered extra credit” for attending the event.

Another incident at UC Berkeley involved a teaching assistant who, in October 2023, offered extra credit for participating in an anti-Israel walkout described as “against the settler-colonial occupation of Gaza.” This email quickly went viral, attracting significant scrutiny online. The university addressed the issue, citing a policy that prohibits political indoctrination on campus.
