Janice “Jan” Ann Krambeer, a beloved educator and community servant, passed away on July 12, 2024, at Our House Senior Living in Austin, Minnesota. Born on January 11, 1937, in Greene, Iowa, Jan’s life was marked by a commitment to education and community service, embodying the biblical principle of loving one’s neighbor as oneself.
After graduating from Greene High School in 1954, Jan pursued higher education with a BA from Upper Iowa University and an MA from the University of Arkansas. Her passion for teaching led her to a 31-year tenure at Austin High School, where she profoundly impacted countless students through her dedication and innovative approach to education. Her development of the Writing Across the Curriculum program exemplifies her commitment to enhancing learning, reflecting the biblical call to equip others for service (Galatians 6:10).
Beyond the classroom, Jan was deeply involved in her community. As an active member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, she participated in various ministries, including book study groups and community meals. Her efforts in establishing the backpack program at St. Olaf Church highlight her dedication to providing for those in need, a testament to the biblical mandate to care for the least among us (Matthew 25:35).
Jan’s love for travel and family enriched her life, as she explored the beauty of nature and cherished time with loved ones. Her quick wit and engaging personality left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She is survived by many cousins, special friends, goddaughters, and a “chosen” family, all of whom will miss her dearly.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2024, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene, Iowa, on Saturday, July 20, 2024. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House in Rochester or the St. Olaf Church Backpack Program, continuing Jan’s legacy of service and compassion.
