Miriam “Mimi” Harrison Brown, a cherished member of the Vineville United Methodist Church community, passed away on October 4, 2018, surrounded by her family. Her life was celebrated on October 9, 2018, at the Vineville United Methodist Church, with services officiated by Dr. Jimmy Asbell and Reverend Grace Guyton. The family welcomed friends and relatives afterward at the Christian Life Center. Mimi will be laid to rest with her husband Roy at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
Born on April 10, 1942, in Macon, Georgia, Mimi was the daughter of the late John and Rose Harrison. She graduated as valedictorian from the Macon Hospital School of Nursing in 1963 and dedicated her career to nursing, working in both hospital settings and private practice. Her commitment to nursing continued as she earned her BSN in 1991 and served as a clinical supervisor for Mercer Health System and Central Georgia Technical College. Her compassionate care inspired many, including family members, to pursue nursing.
After retiring in 2007, Mimi enjoyed traveling with her husband Roy and spending time with her children and grandchildren. An avid gardener, she achieved Master Gardener status in 2009. At Vineville United Methodist Church, she was an active participant in various ministries, notably leading the Backpack Program for over five years, embodying Matthew 25:35’s call to serve those in need.
Mimi’s family and friends expressed deep gratitude to Tricia and Rachel for their care following Mimi’s diagnosis. Mimi took pride in her family’s continuation of the nursing tradition, and their professional care allowed her to spend her final days surrounded by loved ones. Her legacy of “Nursing to All” lives on through them.
Mimi is survived by her children Jon, Steve, and Keri Spivey; step-son Lawson and step-daughter Heather Brown Scott; sister-in-law Sandy Brown Sudduth; sisters Margaret and Jan Harrison Toney; brother Parks Wilson; and grandchildren Rachel, Carter, Luke, Peter, Fisher, and Fiona. She is also survived by four step-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory.
