In a significant development within Georgia’s Ministry of Finance, both the head of the Investigation Service, Levan Kharabadze, and the head of the Revenue Service, Mikheil Maghlakelidze, have stepped down from their positions. The ministry announced that a new head would be appointed on Monday, marking a transition in leadership.
Levan Kharabadze, who was appointed head of the Investigation Service on May 1, previously served as a deputy to Mamuka Mdinaradze, the former head of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG). He succeeded Mikheil Maghlakelidze in this role. Maghlakelidze himself was appointed head of the Investigation Service on June 24, 2025, and had served as deputy head of the Security Police Department before his appointment.
On April 27, 2026, Maghlakelidze transitioned to the role of head of the Revenue Service, succeeding Irakli [Dachi] Beraia. Beraia had been appointed First Deputy Head of the State Audit Office on April 25. Prior to his recent appointments, Levan Kharabadze served as the State Representative (Governor) in the Kvemo Kartli region and was appointed deputy to then-SSSG head Mdinaradze on September 4, 2025.
