9-year-old girl investigated after allegedly cutting another child with knife at Annie Burnside Elementary School
On Oct. 6, 2026, a 9-year-old girl brought a knife to Annie Burnside Elementary School and began wielding it in the school cafeteria, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. The department said she threatened other children and attacked one of them.
One child sustained a small cut to the upper body. The department said the child did not require medical treatment.
School staff removed the weapon and took the students involved to the front office, where deputies questioned them. Deputies later spoke with the 9-year-old’s parent. The department opened an investigation, which is ongoing.
The source does not say whether the girl has been arrested or charged. Staff removed the knife and separated the students before deputies arrived, a sequence that protected the injured child and the others in the cafeteria (Psalm 82:3).
