All Classes Canceled at Point Loma Nazarene University After FBI Reports Threat
Point Loma Nazarene University canceled all classes on Thursday after receiving an unspecified threat from the FBI, prompting the institution to close its campuses and dismiss employees. The decision came following a notification from the federal investigation service, which alerted the university to potential security concerns. University spokeswoman Jill Monroe stated the move was made “out of an abundance of caution.”
The FBI, through its Joint Terrorism Task Force, began an investigation into the threat, which was described as non-specific in nature. The agency worked with federal, state, and local partners to assess the situation. Initial findings suggested the threat was not related to an active shooter scenario. The main campus in the Sunset Cliffs area of San Diego, along with satellite locations in Mission Valley, Liberty Station, and Bakersfield, were temporarily closed.
Students residing on campus were advised to return to their dormitories and remain inside or, if they preferred, to leave the premises. The university’s main campus, which serves over 2,000 undergraduates, was among those affected. The FBI and San Diego police collaborated to evaluate the threat’s validity, with the investigation ongoing as of late morning.
The university’s response underscores a commitment to the safety and well-being of its community, aligning with the biblical call to protect the vulnerable. Proverbs 31:8-9 reminds us to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, a principle that resonates with the actions taken to ensure the security of students and staff.
