Lamor Miller-Whitehead, the pastor of Leaders of Tomorrow International Ministries, faces federal fraud charges after allegedly swindling parishioners. The charges, announced by U.S. prosecutors in Manhattan, allege that Whitehead solicited money from victims, including a retired parishioner, under false pretenses or threats, and then misappropriated the funds for personal use, including luxury goods. This development follows a high-profile incident in July when Whitehead was robbed of an estimated $1 million in jewelry during a live-streamed church service.
According to the allegations, Whitehead, who has been dubbed the “bling-bling bishop” due to his hip-hop connections, also misled FBI investigators during their inquiries. U.S. Attorney Damian Williams emphasized that Whitehead’s actions betrayed the trust placed in him by his parishioners and that his fraudulent activities would cease with his arrest. FBI Assistant Director Michael Driscoll highlighted the bureau’s commitment to holding individuals accountable when they attempt to defraud others through deceit.
The charges against Whitehead include wire fraud and extortion, each carrying a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, with additional charges for making false statements to investigators, which carry a maximum of five years. Whitehead’s attorney, Dawn Florio, has stated that her client denies the allegations and intends to contest them vigorously.
The charges against Whitehead predate the robbery incident, with some alleged fraudulent activities dating back to 2020. In September, two men were charged with the armed robbery of Whitehead, which may have been connected to his attempts to intervene in a separate shooting investigation involving a Goldman Sachs employee. As this case unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the importance of accountability and justice, echoing the biblical call to “do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8).
