Flagler Beach Pastor Sentenced to 7.5 Years for Fraud and Theft

Wesley Brown, a former pastor at Calvary Chapel in Flagler Beach, was convicted on nearly two dozen charges of theft, fraud, and other swindles involving investors he met through his ministry. The prosecution revealed that Brown pocketed close to half a million dollars from $1.2 million entrusted to him, using the funds to enrich himself and his wife, while misleading investors about the legitimacy of his investment schemes.

The fraud affected individuals across multiple states, including six church members between 2010 and 2012. Assistant State Attorney Tim Pribisco described the depth of Brown’s deception, emphasizing that the victims had placed their trust in him not only financially but also spiritually, entrusting him with their hopes and futures.

During the sentencing hearing, Brown claimed innocence and remorse, yet simultaneously shifted blame and expressed self-pity. The prosecution, however, portrayed him as a fraud even in his moments of supposed remorse, highlighting the ongoing nature of his deceit. Circuit Judge Dennis Craig ultimately sentenced Brown to seven and a half years in prison and 22 and a half years on probation.
