Florida Church Leader Charged in Miami for Selling Toxic Bleach as COVID-19 Cure

A Florida church leader and three of his adult sons have been charged in Miami federal court for selling a toxic bleach product falsely marketed as a cure for COVID-19. The group, including Mark Grenon and his sons Jonathan, Jordan, and Joseph Grenon, was accused of conspiracy to defraud the United States and violating the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. The product, known as Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS), was sold by the Genesis II Church of Health and Healing, which they claimed was a religious organization to circumvent government regulation.

The MMS product, containing sodium chlorite and hydrochloric acid, was marketed as a “Sacramental Cleansing Water” for $15 per bottle. The FDA identified the solution as chlorine dioxide, a powerful bleach typically used for industrial purposes, and warned of its dangers. Reports indicated that individuals who ingested the product suffered severe health consequences, including hospitalizations and deaths.

Before promoting MMS as a treatment for COVID-19, the Grenons had been marketing it as a cure for various serious illnesses, such as cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, autism, multiple sclerosis, and HIV/AIDS. Mark Grenon, the co-founder of Genesis, admitted that the organization was not religious in nature but was established to “legalize the use of MMS” and avoid legal repercussions.

The charges against the Grenons followed a period during which Mark Grenon had claimed credit for suggesting to President Trump the idea of using disinfectants to treat COVID-19. This claim came shortly before a press conference where Trump mentioned the potential of disinfectants in combating the virus. The case highlights the importance of accountability and truth in public health matters, echoing the biblical call for justice and care for one’s neighbor, as seen in Micah 6:8 and Proverbs 31:8-9.
