Friends Church Commends Exemplary Leadership of Retired Principal John Wafula Kharemwa
The Kenya Secondary Heads Association (KESSHA) Kakamega North has praised the leadership of John Wafula Kharemwa, the outgoing principal of Friends Secondary School Namanja. The school’s sponsor, the Friends (Quakers) Church, also commended his exemplary service during his tenure. During a farewell event, both groups highlighted his management skills, calling him an inspiration and someone worth emulating.
Led by Principal Salano Simwa of Friends Secondary School, the school’s leadership expressed pride in Kharemwa’s contributions. They noted his efforts in initiating projects, increasing student enrollment, and improving academic performance, which elevated the school’s standing. Other KESSHA members, including principals from various schools, also praised his work, expressing hope for a peaceful retirement.
Representatives from the Friends Church, including General Superintendent Cleopas Kharinda and Presiding Clerk Dr. Harrison Kavingwa, celebrated the positive working relationship between the school and the church. Kavingwa emphasized that the church has no issue with principals of other faiths, provided they adhere to the church’s doctrines and institutional demands. He noted that most schools maintain cordial relations with their sponsor churches to ensure academic success.
The school board of management, through Dr. Isaac Motochi Taracha, confirmed that Kharemwa collaborated effectively with the board on various initiatives. He highlighted the principal’s quiet yet impactful leadership, which saw the school’s population grow from 400 to 900 students in five years. Kharemwa also spearheaded efforts to secure a school bus, which is currently in the design phase.
The outgoing principal’s legacy includes not only academic improvements but also a commitment to the school’s growth and development. His leadership style, marked by action over words, has left a lasting impression on the community and the institution he served. The incoming principal, Shem Memeti Kulecho, is expected to continue this legacy of collaboration and progress.
