Global Leadership of Assemblies of God Pays Courtesy Call on President Mahama
The Global Leadership of the Assemblies of God made a courtesy visit to President John Dramani Mahama at the Presidency in Accra. Reverend Dominic Yeo, the Global Chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship and General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God in Singapore, led the delegation. He was accompanied by Rev. Dr Stephen Yenusom Wengam, the General Superintendent of Assemblies of God in Ghana. The visit was intended to express gratitude for the government’s support in organizing the upcoming 10th Triennial World Assemblies of God Congress.
The congress, scheduled to take place from October 14th to 16th at the Accra International Conference Centre, was originally planned for Black Star Square but was moved due to unforeseen circumstances. President Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama, both members of the Assemblies of God church, are expected to attend the event as Special Guests of Honour. This visit highlights the ongoing relationship between the church leadership and the Ghanaian government, particularly in the context of major church events.
The Assemblies of God, a global Pentecostal denomination, has a significant presence in Ghana. The organization’s leadership has consistently engaged with local and national authorities to ensure the smooth conduct of its international gatherings. The congress serves as a platform for theological dialogue, mission work, and global church networking, reflecting the denomination’s emphasis on community and international collaboration.
The Ghanaian government’s support for the congress underscores the mutual respect and cooperation between religious institutions and state authorities. Such interactions are common in many countries where religious groups play a prominent role in public life. The Assemblies of God’s presence in Ghana, as well as its global outreach, demonstrates the denomination’s commitment to spreading its message and fostering unity among believers.
The relocation of the congress venue highlights the logistical challenges that can arise in organizing large-scale events. Despite these obstacles, the Assemblies of God has maintained its focus on delivering a meaningful and impactful congress. The event is expected to bring together thousands of attendees from around the world, reinforcing the denomination’s global influence and its dedication to spiritual and communal growth.
The visit by the Assemblies of God leadership to the presidential office also reflects the denomination’s engagement with political figures who share its faith. This kind of interaction is often framed within the broader context of religious freedom and the role of faith in public affairs. The Assemblies of God, like many other Pentecostal and charismatic churches, actively participates in societal issues while maintaining its core theological mission.
As the congress approaches, the Assemblies of God continues to emphasize its commitment to global outreach and community service. The event is not only a celebration of faith but also an opportunity to address contemporary challenges and promote the values of justice, mercy, and humble service. These principles, rooted in the teachings of the Bible, guide the denomination’s actions and relationships with both the government and the wider community.
