Israeli airstrike kills two Palestinians in southern Gaza, say medics
An Israeli airstrike killed at least two Palestinians in the southern Gaza Strip on Monday, according to Gaza health officials. The Israeli military confirmed targeting a militant in the area but provided no additional details. The incident comes amid ongoing military operations by Israel, which claims Hamas has been rearming and launching attacks in violation of a ceasefire.
Late on Sunday, another Israeli airstrike hit a tent in the Mawasi area of Khan Younis, killing three people, medics reported. The Israeli military informed Reuters on Monday that it struck militants in the region. These strikes reflect a recent escalation in Israeli military activity against Hamas, which Israel alleges is undermining the ceasefire agreement.
Hamas has denied accusations of rearming and launching attacks, instead accusing Israel of violating the Gaza ceasefire. The group claims Israel is obstructing efforts to achieve peace and rebuild the territory. Last year’s US-brokered ceasefire agreement called for the eventual reconstruction of Gaza, but progress toward implementing the deal has been minimal.
The ceasefire, which includes terms for Hamas to disarm and Israel to withdraw its troops, has not led to significant progress. Gaza health officials have reported at least 1,400 Palestinian deaths from Israeli strikes since the October 2025 ceasefire. Israel has stated that four of its soldiers have been killed by militants in Gaza during the same period.
The conflict continues to raise complex moral and humanitarian questions. Romans 12:18 reminds us to “live in harmony with one another” and to seek peace whenever possible. As the situation remains volatile, the call for justice, mercy, and accountability remains urgent.
