Israeli Strikes Injure Palestinians in Gaza Despite Ceasefire Agreement
Israeli strikes injured three Palestinians in the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza on Monday, marking another violation of a ceasefire agreement, according to medics. The attack targeted an area that Israeli military forces had withdrawn from under the ceasefire terms, as reported by witnesses. The strikes also affected other regions in Gaza, including eastern Gaza City, the Bureij refugee camp, and Rafah in the south.
The Israeli military has carried out extensive operations in Gaza since October 2023, resulting in the deaths of over 71,200 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, and injuring more than 171,200 others. The conflict has left the enclave in ruins, with repeated bombardments causing widespread destruction. Despite the ceasefire agreement, Israeli forces continue to conduct attacks that target civilian areas, raising concerns about the adherence to humanitarian law.
In the occupied West Bank, Israeli military actions have also led to casualties and injuries. A Palestinian was injured when his car was rammed by an Israeli military vehicle in Tulkarem on late Sunday, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa. The vehicle caused severe damage to the car, and the injured man was transported to a hospital by the Palestinian Red Crescent.
Separately, a video released by the Voice of Palestine showed Israeli soldiers assaulting a 61-year-old Palestinian man from Al Rakiz village in Hebron. The man, Al Amour, who has an amputated foot and uses crutches, was dropped to the ground and kicked while a soldier pointed a weapon at him. Al Amour has previously been injured by illegal Israeli settlers, including an April shooting that resulted in the amputation of one of his feet.
Israeli forces and illegal settlers have killed at least 1,103 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, injured nearly 11,000, and detained around 21,000 since October 2023, according to Palestinian figures. The ongoing violence has sparked international condemnation and calls for accountability, with some advocating for the protection of civilian lives and the pursuit of justice.
In a landmark opinion last July, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory illegal and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. This ruling underscores the legal and moral imperative for an end to the occupation and the protection of Palestinian rights. The situation continues to demand attention to the principles of justice, mercy, and peace, as outlined in Micah 6:8, which calls for acting justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with God.
