Mary Ann Noreus, 73, of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away at 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2013. She was born on June 6, 1940, in Cloquet, Minnesota, to Robertson Edward and Jane (Wilson) Noreus. She is survived by a brother, William (Diane) Noreus of Zachary, Louisiana; a brother-in-law, Raymond Stutsman of Elkhart; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Mary attended Purdue University and later earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota. She worked as a Media Specialist for the St. Paul, Minnesota school system. She was a devoted and active member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, where she served as a reader and played the piano for Sunday school and church services. Her involvement with the church was an important part of her life.

In addition to her church activities, Mary was a member of several organizations, including P.E.O., Quester, Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women, and the Elkhart County Homemakers Club. She had a deep appreciation for antiques, golfing, gardening, and the outdoors.

Friends and family were invited to gather for a memorial service on Thursday, August 22, 2013, at the Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. Jim Champagne will officiate the service. Online condolences may be sent through the funeral home’s website. Memorials may be made to the First Church of Christ Scientist or the Fernwood Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve in Niles.

Mary’s life reflected a commitment to community and spiritual engagement, as seen in her active participation in the First Church of Christ Scientist. Her dedication to her faith and service to others aligns with the biblical call to love one’s neighbor and seek justice, as described in Micah 6:8. Her legacy continues through the lives she touched and the organizations she supported.
