Minister of Human Rights Samuel Mbemba presents genocide resolutions to Church of Christ in the Congo leader for popularization

Me Samuel Mbemba, Minister of Human Rights, presented the first two resolutions recognizing Congolese genocide to Reverend André-Gédéon Bokondoa, calling on him to popularize them within the Church of Christ in the Congo (ECC). This action followed guidelines from Prime Minister Judith Suminwa on promoting resolutions from the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) and the African Civil Society regarding genocides in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

The meeting, which lasted nearly an hour, focused on advancing the recognition of genocides committed in the DRC by Rwanda over more than three decades. Minister Mbemba explained that he had requested the appointment with Reverend Doctor Bokundoa, the national president of the ECC, to hand over the two resolutions. These resolutions aim to secure international acknowledgment of the Congolese genocide.

“This is the first result of the struggle initiated by the President of the Republic, Felix Tshisekedi, for the recognition of the genocide that our country has suffered,” said Minister Mbemba. He emphasized that the church had already begun this effort, and the government joined the fight in alignment with the Head of State’s will.

Minister Mbemba also acknowledged the contribution of First Lady Denise Nyakeru, who has been involved in victim reparation efforts. He urged Reverend Doctor Bokundoa to ensure the ECC disseminates these resolutions widely, so the entire country can embrace them.

The Minister highlighted collaboration with the Inter-Institutional Commission on Victim Assistance and Reform Support (CIA-VAR) and the National Fund for the Reparation of Victims of Conflict (Fonarev). He expressed gratitude to Reverend Doctor Bokundoa for the meeting and requested that all ECC members be informed of the resolutions.
