Renton Youth Pastor Arrested on Alleged Molestation and Voyeurism Charges

A former youth pastor at Highlands Community Church has been arrested on suspicion of second-degree child molestation and first-degree voyeurism, both serious felonies. The suspect, Derek Nelson, was taken into custody as he left work and was booked into the Thurston County Jail.

The alleged crimes occurred during church functions in Thurston County, according to the victim. The molestation charge involves an incident in April 2015 when the victim was 13 years old, while the voyeurism charge stems from a separate incident in February 2019 when the victim was 17 years old.
