Seventh-day Adventist Church Denies Partnership with Sakunda for Arundel Medical Center Revamp

The Seventh-day Adventist Church, under the Zimbabwe East Union Conference, has formally addressed and dismissed rumors circulating on social media regarding a purported partnership with Sakunda Holdings to revamp Arundel Medical Center. In a statement issued on March 30, 2020, the church clarified that it had neither sought nor received any communication from Sakunda Holdings or the Ministry of Health and Childcare regarding the use of Arundel Medical Hospital as an isolation center for COVID-19 patients.
The church emphasized its longstanding mission to promote health and wellbeing, aligning with its commitment to alleviate sickness and suffering as part of its broader gospel mission. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Adventist Church has been proactive in raising awareness and implementing preventive measures to curb the virus’s spread.
The church highlighted that decisions regarding the development and operation of hospitals fall under the jurisdiction of Union Conferences, in this case, the Zimbabwe East Union Conference. It reiterated that no collaboration with Sakunda Holdings had taken place, nor had any formal request been made to the Ministry of Health and Childcare.
In a call for unity and vigilance, the church urged its members and the broader community to continue praying for divine intervention and to actively participate in efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
