Seventh Day Adventist Church NZC Investigating Alleged Poisoning of Pastor Fortune Chipunza

The Seventh Day Adventist Church in Zimbabwe has launched an investigation into the alleged poisoning of senior pastor Fortune Chipunza. Chipunza, who is associated with the North Zimbabwe Conference (NZC), is currently receiving medical treatment for the incident.
The alleged poisoning is reportedly connected to the church’s upcoming internal elections. While details remain scarce, the investigation is examining whether any individuals or groups sought to influence the election outcome through such an act.
Pastor Ahmed Kahn, a spokesperson for the NZC, stated that the church is awaiting medical reports to understand what happened. He emphasized that the church will proceed based on these findings.
“We are hoping that results provided by doctors who have worked on him can help us understand what happened and then we will take it from there,” Kahn said. “We have asked Pastor Chipunza for the results, but he doesn’t want to show them to us. We have also asked some people to speak with him to gather more information, but without the medical results, there is nothing concrete we can pursue.”
Chipunza, when asked about the incident, declined to comment on the matter, stating that he was “focusing on my recovery” and not in a position to speak to the press.
The situation underscores the importance of safeguarding church leaders and ensuring accountability for any unlawful actions. As the church navigates this challenge, it must remain vigilant in protecting its members and upholding justice.
