Southern Baptists Celebrate 70th Annual Meeting in Colorado
Colorado Baptist’s 70th annual meeting, held Oct. 12-13 in Wheat Ridge, Colo., drew 344 registrants, including 182 messengers from 118 of the state’s 373 churches. The event, themed “Building on the past; Pressing to the future,” based on Deut. 6:1-3, featured worship, preaching, a missions fair, reports from Colorado leaders, and greetings from SBC entity leaders.
Executive Director Michael Proud Jr. emphasized the significance of the occasion, noting it was a time to honor the legacy of Southern Baptists in Colorado since the state convention began Jan. 1, 1956. “This isn’t just a commemoration of the past; it’s a powerful opportunity to step into the future God is preparing for us,” Proud said.
The two-day gathering included a missions fair showcasing music and meals from nine non-Anglo Colorado churches, as well as panel discussions on the Cooperative Program (CP) featuring SBC leaders such as Jeff Iorg, Kevin Ezell, Todd Lafferty, Ryan Blackwell, and Evan Lenow.
Proud highlighted the value of fellowship among pastors, stating, “When our pastors spend time together, they learn to trust one another, and when they trust one another, they partner together better.” The event also included one-on-one conversations with SBC entity leaders, reinforcing the collaborative spirit of the Southern Baptist Convention.
The meeting underscored the importance of unity and partnership in advancing the gospel, with attendees engaging in fellowship and business throughout the event. The celebration of Colorado Baptist’s 70th anniversary served as both a reflection on past achievements and a call to future mission work.
